We’re thrilled to share our recent partnership with an exceptional team on an inspiring project: a nature documentary series for Europe’s ARTE channel, showcasing the ecological wonders of Southeast Asia’s final rainforest stronghold: the Cardamom Mountains (Phnom Kravanh ស្រុកភ្នំក្រវាញ).
This sprawling wilderness shelters extraordinary and critically endangered species, from Asian elephants and pileated gibbons to Sunda pangolins, alongside vibrant plant life, including the fragrant cardamom spice that inspired the region’s name.
Episode 1’s creation was a dynamic two-week expedition, elevated by the passion and knowledge of local experts: guides, rangers, Indigenous communities, conservation leaders, and scientists like Cambodia’s renowned herpetologist, Mr. Neang Thy. His groundbreaking work has identified over 20 amphibians and reptiles, with two species entirely new to science!
Special recognition goes to the gifted German filmmaking trio: Lisa, Julian, and Till, for their artistry in portraying Cambodia’s lush ecosystems, awe-inspiring vistas, and rich cultural tapestry.
This series, designed to highlight Cambodia’s natural heritage, was fueled by the steadfast collaboration of Wild Earth Allies, Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Ministry of Environment, and the local communities whose wisdom and generosity were invaluable.
Our deepest gratitude to everyone involved.
Finally, immense thanks to our partners at dmFilm for trusting Sopheak Film Fixer, our expert local producer, and our crew with this remarkable journey. We’re eager to reunite for future projects!
